TimeShift Explorer is a game designed for educational and entertainment purposes only. The game uses historical images and modern street view data to create an engaging geography learning experience.
TimeShift Explorer draws on public historical photo archives. History includes war, occupation, dictatorship, colonialism and other events people would rather had never happened, and photographs from those periods appear in the game — including images from the Second World War that show Nazi Germany, its symbols, its military, and the places it occupied.
Such images are included for historical, geographical and educational purposes: to identify where a photograph was taken and to compare that place with how it looks today. Their presence is documentary, not an endorsement. TimeShift Explorer does not support, promote, glorify or trivialise any totalitarian regime, ideology, or the acts committed under it, and no image is chosen to celebrate them.
We are aware that some photographs may be upsetting, especially to people whose families were affected by the events shown. That is never the intention. If you believe a specific image is gratuitous, wrongly captioned, misattributed, or unlawful where you live, use the Report this image link on the round-result screen — it reaches us with the location already attached. You can also contact us directly. We review every report and remove the image if warranted.
Laws on the display of historical symbols differ from country to country. Where local law is stricter than this disclaimer, local law applies, and we act on well-founded reports.

Every round is scored against a single coordinate, but that coordinate is our best estimate of where a photograph was taken — not a surveyed fact. Historical photographs almost never carry GPS data, and archive captions are often broad ("Berlin, 1938"), ambiguous, or simply wrong. Coordinates may therefore be approximate, and occasionally they are off by more than we would like.
The same goes for the modern view. A Street View panorama sits where the camera vehicle actually drove, which can be some distance from the subject of the historical image and may face a different way. Satellite tiles were captured at yet another moment in time. Buildings are demolished, streets renamed and borders redrawn. Treat distances, scores and comparisons as close rather than exact.
The availability of street view imagery and map data varies by location and is dependent on Google's data coverage. Not all locations in the world have street view coverage, and some areas may have limited or outdated imagery.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the game at any time without prior notice. This includes changes to gameplay mechanics, scoring systems, and available features.
